HARD CHROME PLATING

Hard Chrome is a very hard surface coating (usually in the region of 950-1150 H.V) with a very low coefficient of friction surface. It is used throughout many industries in a number of different types of applications. Firstly it can be applied to a new component to provide a durable hard wear-resisting coating Examples of this are -

        • Wire wound rods for paper coating
        • Seal areas on pump or drive shafts
        • Conveyer wear rails and rollers
        • Hydraulic rams and cylinders
        • Plastic extruder screws
        • Print rollers

Another application for Hard Chrome is for the refurbishment of worn components where the metal has been lost through wear or been manufactured undersize or, even if there has been excessive distortion during an hardening process. This application usually requires a thicker deposit and components are pre-Chrome ground then a suitable deposit of hard chrome is deposited before they are ground back to original sizes and tolerances. Examples of this process are:-

        • Machine spindles or housings
        • Motorcycle forks (PittedForks.Co.Uk)
        • Cardboard tube formers
        • Pump shafts or rotors
        • Hydraulic rods and cylinders
        • Any sliding or rotating shafts

We have the capacity to chrome up to 3.6 metres in length and if you think you may have a possible application for a component not listed please contact us and we can discuss it’s viability further.

HARD ANODISING

Hard Anodising is the controlled formation of aluminium oxide on the surface of aluminium. This coating is extremely hard (hard enough to cut glass) and possesses a number of interesting properties, namely it’s obvious wear-resistance, it also has very good corrosion resistance and it acts as a very efficient electrical insulator.

The surface film growth (depending on the grade of aluminium) is usually in the region of approximately 20-25 microns therefore care has to be taken if there are any tolerances to be taken into consideration. Thicker deposits can also be applied if required and then the components can be ground back to tolerances required.

The anodic film produced on the surface of the aluminium actually penetrates the surface as much as the surface growth therefore if you had a growth of 25 microns the depth of anodising would actually be doubled (50 microns).
Some examples of applications follow:-

              • DRUMS FOR CIGARETTE MANUFACTURERS
              • TELESCOPIC LEGS FOR CAMERAS
              • WEAR PLATES ON FOOD MACHINERY
              • HYDRAULIC PISTONS
              • WINCH DRUMS

UNIVERSAL GRINDING

With our fully trained grinding technicians we can provide a complete hassle free reclamation service if required. You provide us with a worn component and we will return it back to you ready for re-fitting or re-assembly. Alternately we can just carry out sub-contract grinding of un-plated items. In both cases we produce excellent surface finishes to extremely tight limits as required.

We have a wide selection of fully equipped grinding machines and therefore can provide a prompt efficient service at any time with the following capacities-

              • UP TO 2 .75 METRES BETWEEN CENTRES
              • CENTRELESS GRINDING UP TO 65 MM DIA.
              • SURFACE GRINDING 450MM X 150MM
              • INTERNAL GRINDING 700MM DIA. X 460MM DEEP

FABRICATION AND MACHINE SHOP

We also have a small in house fabrication and machine shop consisting of lathes, milling machines and both Mig and Arc welding facilities, enabling us to carry out any modifications or any alterations you may require or even supply you with new components from drawings or samples.
